The Humble Beginnings of Family Ministries

Family Ministries began as a satellite unit of Cookson Hills Christian Ministries around 1976. After opening its doors, the Florida operation ministered to meet the needs of many children and their families under the umbrella of the main unit in Oklahoma.
As the ministry in Florida expanded, and the need to serve more children and families grew, it became clear that the Florida operation needed a governing body from the state. Thus, in July 2000, the board of Cookson Hills Christian Ministries turned the Florida operation over to the new organization now known as Family Ministries of Florida.
Since then, Family Ministries of Florida slowly began to expand. In 2001 a new child care cottage and administrative building were opened. In 2002 the ministry expanded its mission by starting Legacy Christian Academy––a fully accredited private Christian School with the goal of using a comprehensive Christian curriculum to help students achieve academic excellence.

A Letter from the Founders of Family Ministries

Welcome to Family Ministries of Florida. We are committed to providing quality homes and a safe educational environment for at-risk youths to develop Spiritual Character.

Our vision is to have the resources to develop the values of faith, family and community in the youth we serve.
Students in the residential program of Family Ministries come to live in a family along with several other children. They get to live in an environment where work hard, play hard, and pray hard are not only taught but are also demonstrated by their house parents. They also have the opportunity to learn about relationships and the responsibilities of being in a family.

The academic needs of children and youth are our top priority at Legacy Christian Academy. Legacy Christian Academy, LCA, is a Bible-based Christian School that offers classes for grades K – 12. They utilize a mastery-based curriculum, in which the student sets his or her own educational goals while being guided by professional Christian staff.

At LCA, we firmly believe that every child should have access to an individualized education that best suits them. Our highly qualified staff and faculty work hard to create an environment that fosters our school's spirit of a mastery-based individualized education for every student we serve.

We strive to live out, model, and instill in our students a love of God, and a heart of service for others.

It is our goal that through our strong Bible-based education we will give students the opportunity to build character and develop skills that will prepare and benefit them for the rest of their lives. Our fully accredited academic program includes individualized teacher methods, our innovative BASE program, athletics, fine arts, and various extracurricular options. In addition, we also encourage our students to participate in our student service opportunities offered throughout the year.

Educating Students– Beyond the Classroom

Legacy Christian Academy is a Bible-based Christian school offering grades K-12. LCA is registered with the Florida Department of Education and accredited by the Florida Council of Private Schools.
LCA utilizes the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum, a mastery-based individualized curriculum in which the students set their own educational goals while being assisted by educated professional Christian Staff.
LCA strives to educate the student beyond the classroom. We want to reach out to them academically, physically, and spiritually.
